Cuguyons

Cuguyons or Cugulons is an assembly line located in the Préalpes de Castellane at the top of the communes of Aups and Moissac-Bellevue in the Var. It is one of the alpine chains southernmost.

Etymology

The word " Cuguyons" from the root pre Indo-European Kuk is resulting which wants to say a round hill.

Geography

Cuguyons are located on the limit of the communes of Aups, Moissac-Bellevue and of Bauduen and in full heart of the Canton of Aups. The chain is covered with a forest called " Colle" with the Adret and " Cachet" or " Ubac of Aumades" with the Ubac.
The vegetation is alternative according to altitude: in lower part of 650 m altitude are pines of Alep and holm oaks and kermes. Between 650 and 800 meters are woodland pines, the presence of pines of Alep decreases. With the top of 800 meters, the vegetation becomes a scrubland made up of bay-trees, boxwood and other shrubs.
With the foot of the chain is a covered plate of forests of pines of Alep and woodland pines called " Plaine" of an average altitude of 600 meters. This plate dominates the vast plain of Aups and Pélenc.
Cuguyons have several different and aligned tops south-east in the North-West:
The Signal of the Eagle is the top culminating with 982 meters of altitude, where is located a satellite relay.
The two other important tops in south-east are with 970 meters and 944 meters.
