long Sunday of engagement is a novel of Sebastien Japrisot published in 1991, it received the Interallié price. Jean-Pierre Jeunet and the scenario writer Guillaume Laurant drew from it a film in 2003

Summary

At 8 years, Mathilde becomes acquainted with Manech; the years passing, he becomes the man of his life. Called young person, it leaves to the war in 1917. Not supporting the life in the trenches, Manech car-is mutilated to be demobilized. January 1917: five French soldiers are condemned to died in council of war, of which Manech: they will be thrown over the edge of sliced in No man' S Land. A whole night and a whole day, they will try to survive. With the other end of France, Mathilde always loves this Manech Cornflower of one love the proof all. Sebastien Japrisot located the meeting of Mathilde and the man which will tell him the circumstances of dead of Manech in the commune of Bernay-Vilbert.

Adaptation

In 2003, Jean-Pierre Jeunet adapted the novel to the cinema. It is a film produced by Warner Bros with as main actors: Audrey Tautou, and Gaspard Ulliel and of many supporting characters like Jean-Pierre Becker, Clovis Cornillard, Marion Cotillard, Jean-Pierre Darroussin, Julie Depardieu, etc Some changes were brought to the scenario compared to the original book.
