The cuckoo ( Cuculinae ) gathers several species of birds belonging to the family of the Cuculidés

Etymology

The term “cuckoo” is related to the song gray cuckoo. The Latin name ancient for this species is cŭcūlus , from this term derives the scientific name like the gray cuckoo, then by traditional semantic extension for the Taxon S, the name of subfamily, family and order. The cry and the behavior of this bird are at the origin of the word Cocu. The “O” of Cuckold is probably an inflection of the words formed on Coq.
