Cucq

Cucq is a common French, located in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais. These inhabitants are called Cucquois.

Geography

Cucq is composed of three geographical entities: the village of Cucq, the hamlet of Tripod and the seaside resort of Stella Beach.

History

For the period mérovingienne the grounds where are located Cucq today, Touquet, Merlimont and Berck, were only marshes or were invaded by the sea.

Little by little, the sea was withdrawn, the marshes were covered by sand and the dunes.

The Wild rabbits of Cucq and Tripod result from the withdrawal of the sea since centuries. The sand of the estran, disaggregated by the wind with low tide, accumulated on the coast to form the dunes of the cord of the littoral.

Origins of the names of Cucq and Tripod:

Cucq or Cuc of preceltic means “height, hill” or of Latin “place strengthened”. The village at its beginnings was located on a dune, an unspecified monticule, a little higher than the surroundings, from where the comparison and the name of Cucq or Cuck or Cucques.

Tripod points out the triangular shape of the village to us.

In 1819, the State decides to draw up a precise plan of the old field of the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Jose confiscated at the time of the revolution. The 1.600 hectares of the wild rabbits of Tripod, hamlet of Cucq, are considered in the 1827 and are sold on January 31st, 1835 to Mr. Doms, a Belgian who will not be able to pay the sum due. The sale is thus cancelled. These grounds repurchased by Maître Daloz will be later known under the name of: Touquet Paris Beach . On the edges of the Canche, at the 15th century, the wearing of Tripod had about thirty fishing vessels. 150 men lived then of the sea: fishing fed the markets of Amiens, Abbeville and Beauvais.

In 1837, Jean-Baptiste Daloz buys the wild rabbits of Cucq and Tripod.

In 1855, Mrs Daloz and Rigaux (sons-in-law of Mr. Daloz) plant the young pines.

In 1858, Mrs Daloz and Rigaux decide to share the field.

Mrs Daloz takes 1250 hectares, (the current territory of the commune of Touquet) and Mr. Rigaux will constitute the field of Stella.

The first part of the 20th century will be marked by the establishment of one of largest the allotments of France: Stella become the station which it is today.

From 1914 to 1920, the foundation of Stella Plage went to take place which was unfortunately put out of night light by the First World War.

In order to allow the installation of the station, following monetary degradation, Mrs Labrasse and Poulain set up the free property owners' syndicate of the owners of Stella-Beach in 1921.

In 1925, Stella Plage inaugurates its nomination in “Health resort” which will involve the creation of the first tourist office in 1930.

From this period of many installations will be born: post, installation of voieries, schools, dam of stella, purification plant.

Each season the estivants, owners or tenants flowed especially since the creation of the tourist office which organized various festivals and demonstrations (cycle races, plays of beach, celebrates flowers…)

Then the Second world war bursts, the commune will know difficult years; almost all the villas are destroyed or seriously damaged. Only, two villas remained intact at the end of the conflict.

Stella-beach is characterized by a very great sand beach end on the coast of the English Channel. This beach is contiguous with that of Touquet Paris-beach in north and that of Merlimont, then of Berck-beach in the south One can notice there the presence of dunes sand fine protected by the Law " Littoral"

At the beginning of February the beach is and a supply crossing point of Enduropal which succeeded Enduro of Touquet.
