Candi Staton (born Canzetta Maria Staton on March 13rd 1940 with Hanceville, Alabama) is an American singer of Gospel .
Canzetta Maria Staton started by singing Gospel then a mixture of Country and Soul for the Fame label between 1969 and 1974. Then it signs at Warner where it will leave five albums drunk person-disco music between 1974 and 1980. She is the example even of the singer of drunk person of the South, expressive and singing with conviction, which knew particularly well to adapt to the Disco. “Young hearts run free”, left in March 1976 and drawn from the homonymous album, is his larger success (n°1 R&B, pop n°20 and English n°2). “Run to” is to me another extract of the album Young hearts run free and evokes to it song-title besides. It was classified n° 20 R &B and left in 12" promotional with the long version on each face.
In 1977 it leaves the album Music speaks louder than words , whose simple one, the resumption of the Bee Gees “Nights one Broadway”, is classified n°6 in England (July 1977). In 1978 it leaves House off coils , with the simple “Victim”, where it quotes besides “Young hearts run free”. “Victim” has even known a Remix for the discotheques (available on the two faces of a 12" promotional) and it was classified n°3 disco music and n° 17 R &B. It remained besides, with the dires of the singer itself, her preferred song. Then Candi Staton launches an album more directly disco music, Chance . The simple “When you wake up tomorrow” will have a certain success, being classified n° 13 R &B, and the 12" the long version of the album will propose. It is followed of “Chance”/“Rock'n'roll” and of “I ain' T got nowhere to go”. This album particularly appreciated in discotheque will be followed of Candi Staton in 1980 at Warner then of Nitelites (with the simple “Suspicious minds”, English success) in 1982 at Sugarhill.
Thereafter it will record eight albums of Gospel, returning to the music profane only in 1999 - if one excludes You got the coils , recorded in 1986 and become an English hit in 1991 after pirate copies a long time had circulated here and there. Young hearts run free also was remixée in 1986 and was classified n°47 in England. Then Staton rechantée it in 1999 in a new version, available on the album Outside in , carried out in England. On this album carried out by K-klass one finds the simple one “Coils one coils” (Co-writing by Boy George and available in many remixes) like “Bouncing back”. In 2000 she sings “I just edge' T get to sleep At all” then in 2001 she makes a round in England with Shalamar.
