Cryptodires

The Cryptodires form one of the Testudines which includes the majority of the terrestrial tortoises, all the marine tortoises, and certain tortoises amphibians. They are named Cryptodires because their head, lorqu' it retracts preserve his orientation initial, contrary to the Pleurodires which fold their neck. Pleurodires and Cryptodires are also different by the relation between their basin and them carapace. The operation of the jaws also differentiates the two sub-orders.

Cryptodires evolved mainly to the end of the Jurassic , and almost completely replaced Pleurodires in the lakes and the rivers, while starting to develop species on ground.
