History

In 804, an abbey was created by monks Benedictines. To protect itself from the invasions and the floods, the monks built in height a vault which will become the castle of the monks.

A very beautiful basilica, whose certain elements go back to the VIII° century, rises in the center of the village. With Romance style, covered by a roof of roofing stones (stones punts), it is in particular decorated in the apse with a mosaic with Byzantine style. Splendid vaults and remarkable crypt, the chapitaux ones of the columns are decorated sculptures of a great interest. One could see a large table there being marked " Gift of the empereur" (Napoleon I°) The staircases of access were decorated Roman milliary stones.
