Crows

The Crows , also called Corbels , Absaroka or Absáalooke , are a tribe Amerindian which did not live historically in the valley of the river Yellowstone, and which was moved by the government of the the United States of America in a reserve in the south of Billings (Montana). The political center of Crows is located at Crow Agency (Montana). The tribe accommodates every year a large gathering mixing Pow-wow, rodeo and parade; it is the Crow Fair which is held each year in Crow Agency (in 2006 from August 17th to 21st).
The reserve of the Crow Indians in the south and the center of the State of the Montana is a great reserve of more than: 7300 km ². It is especially located in the Counties of Big Horn and Yellowstone Counties with also of the grounds conceded in the Counties of Rosebud, Carbon and Treasure. Its Eastern border is on the meridian 107e of Greenwich, except along the border with the septentrional reserve of the Cheyennes Indians: indeed the delimitation of the border between the two Indian reserves is old and vague. The southernmost border leaves the meridian 107e to the west to Eastern bank of the river Big Horn.
The language crow belongs to the languages Sioux of the valley of Missouri.
Crows lived in Tipi S made of skins of Bison S and wood stakes. Inside, they had the mattresses along the edges of their shelters, and a fire in the center, whose smoke escaped by a hole in top of the tipi.
The clothing of Crows depended on the sex. The women got dressed simply, because it passed the major part of time near the tipi. They wore made dresses of skins of Mouton or Gazelle, decorated teeth of dash. They put leggings and Mocassin S. the women crows carried the short hair, contrary to the men. The men wore the shirt, of the leggings held by a belt, a dress, and moccassins. Their hair long, and was sometimes emphasized by accessories.
Scouts
The June 25th 1876, George Armstrong Custer, ordering the 7th regiment of cavalry of the United States led its troops to the attack of the warriors Sioux and Cheyennes. The Crow Nation was recruited to be useful in the army like Indian scouts. White Man Runs Him , Curley , Hairy Moccasin , and Goes Ahead were at the sides of Lieutenant Colonel Custer and the 7th of cavalry to the Bataille of Little Big Horn. The only mission of the scouts was to find the campings Indian. The site of this battle, located close to Crow Agency, is commemorated by the national Monument of the battle field of Little Bighorn .
