Croult
The Croult is a small river, now covered which takes its source with Goussainville, in particular fed by several rus of the Plaine of France: the Rouillon and the Serrated roller .
History
The Croult (sometimes Crould) is a small river is mentioned as of 832 under the name of Crodoaldus flumen in an ecclesiastical document; Croult name would derive from the Germanic patronym of origin Crodoald , which could be that of the project superintendent of the derivation of Rouillon. Archaeological research showed that as of the 11th century, Croult is dammed up with palisades in mattresses, then with built banks. Tisserands, fullers and several mills settle along the river in Saint-Denis. Downtown, it is divided into two branches which meet at the exit of the city: lower Croult and higher Croult; the river is cleaned annually.
Among the supplied mills: mill Fayvon (Courneuve), mill of Courtille, mill of the Back of ass, mill Break-Prop… and the mill with tan. At the 18th century, four dyeings are made competition whereas industry clothier (“white of Saint-Denis”) develops; with the turning of the 20th century, laundries take their place.
Industry gradually transformed the cressonnières into wetlands and the rivers in sewers with open sky at and the beginning of the 20th century, and which were tubes and covered in the Années 1950 because of the harmful effects which the vicinity underwent.
It is evoked “to discover” Croult in order to return during water its visibility, its functions of urban ecology and to combat the risks of flood.
Geography
Croult is thrown in the Vieille Sea, whose water joins the the Seine with Saint-Denis.Croult and its affluents a long time irrigated the market gardenings which had been established in funds of valley (with many cress nières located at Goussainville) and production of seasonal vegetables supplying the markets of Paris. The old site of the 4000 of Courneuve was in particular a great zone of market gardenings.
