Crossing of the English Channel to the stroke

Matthew Webb carried out the first crossing of the Manche to the stroke the August 25th 1875 in 21 hours, 45 minutes.

Gertrude Ederle was as for it the first woman to carry out the crossing the August 6th 1926 of 14 hours, 39 minutes.

Alison Streeter carried out it 43 times, more than whoever in the world. This total includes triple crossed in England - France - England in 34h30.

On the whole, more than 5.000 candidates some 8.000 attempts launched, of which approximately 650 were crowned success.
