The Coupe of Iceland of Football ( Visa-bikar ) was created in 1960.
It is about a cut with direct elimination where a team is eliminated when she loses a match. Y takes part the registered Icelandic clubs in the Fédération of Iceland of football.
The cut is divided into a total of eight turns plus a final, where, each division enters to one. It traditionally begins in May with the entry in competition from the clubs belonging to lower divisions and is completed at the time of the finale being held generally at the beginning of October at the end of the Icelandic season of football. The final proceeds on a match with in the event of equality at the end of regulatory time, two extensions by 15 minutes and finally a meeting of shootings to the goals if there is always equality.
From 1960 to 1972, the final took place in Malarvöllur. Since 1973 it is held with the Laugardalsvöllur.
The winner of the cut of Iceland ( Visa-bikar ) is qualified for the first preliminary round of the Coupe of the UEFA of the following season.
