Cross from Africa of the footballing nations
The Coupe of Africa of the nations is a competition of Football which opposes the best national teams of the countries of Africa. More commonly called EDGE, it is most prestigious of the sporting events of the African continent.
It is organized by the African Confédération of football (CIF).
It gathers every two years the sixteen best national teams of the continent.
The title is held by the Egypt which gained it at it in 2006.
History
The Egypt, the Sudan and the Ethiopia took part in the first tournament. The South Africa was prohibited participations because of its policy of Apartheid. Two years later, the Egypt, where the tournament took place, gains for the second time, being carried out by their player Mahmoud El Gohary. The three countries present in 1957 took part in this tournament. The Sixties were one period of success for the African confederation of Football (CIF), and for this period, the cut of the Nations testified a great progress. Novel members, like Tunisia and Uganda, took part for the first time in this cut which took place in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian ones proved their force while arriving finally against Egypt. At the conclusion of the prescribed time, the two teams were with equality 2 to 2. But finally, the Ethiopian ones gained 4-2 after prolongation. Ghana gained its first cut in 1963. They were involved by Charles Giamphy. " Black Stars” or the black stars shone to beat Sudan 3-0 in the final match of this competition held in Accra, the capital. Ghana could defend its title in Tunisia, by gaining 3-2 against the team of Tunisia after prolongation. The gaining team comprised only two players having taken part in the preceding competition. 8 teams took part this time in the competition, representing a sign of increase in the popularity of this tournament in the African continent. Congo-Kinshasa arrived at the final match against Ghana. Pierre Kalala marked the most important goal. Laurent Pokou, the player of the Ivory Coast, registered 6 goals, and will mark 8 at the time of the following edition of them. In 1970, the tournament took place in Sudan, and it was the first competition transmitted on line to the Télévision. Zaire, holding of the title, left the competition as of the first turn. Ghana arrived finally for the fourth consecutive time, but inclined itself vis-a-vis Sudan on a goal of ElSayed, making it possible Sudan to gain the only trophy of its history. At residence Cameroun arrived in semi-final. Although it is favorite, it loses with the general surprise against Congo, which finally gains finally this competition by beating Mali. The competition which took place in Egypt is finished by a victory of Zaire. Pierre Nday, the Zairean player marked 9 goals, allowing his team to finally arrive. For the first time in the history of this tournament, the final match was rejoué after the score was of parity 2-2 at the conclusion of the prescribed time. Nday marked 2 goals in the second match, making it possible Zaire to triumph (the Zaireans are turned over in their country with the presidential plane, of Mobutu Séséséko). The competition takes place in Ethiopia with a new formula of experimental competition with a second round in the form of championship. Morocco, leader throughout the tournament, gains the trophy at the time of the final match vis-a-vis a team of particularly given and very impressive Guinea. The great revelation of this edition will be the young captain of the eleven Morrocan Ahmed Faras, balloon of gold the same year, which will offer a remarkable service and a technical control of the play worthy of the largest footballers of the history. The goal of the victory will be marked by Baba (Morocco) at 5 minutes of the end of the part. Ghana, which accommodated this tournament, beat Uganda 2-0 finally, becoming the first country African to gain the cut three times and having thus acquired the right to keep it for always. Nigeria gains for the first time the cut of the African nations by beating Algeria in the final match 3-0 thanks to its attacker, Sigon Odigbamy.She sees the victory of the Algerian team which finally east demolishes itself of Nigeria by smallest of scores 1 to 0.
The Ivory Coast gains its first trophy in the competition by beating Ghana with the shootings with the goals (the longest meeting of the history)-
