Creation
The cross camarguaise was created in 1924 by Paul Hermann which conceived it and drew it at the request of the Marquis de Baroncelli. It incarnates the three fundamental virtues: faith, the Hope and Charity. It symbolizes with it only the " Nation camarguaise" (or " Nation gardiane") because it associates the gardians symbolically, the fishermen and the Holy ones Marry:
- the cross and its three-pronged forks of gardians expresses the Foi
- the anchor of the fishermen symbolizes the Espérance
- the heart represents the Charité the Holy ones Marry
The original cross carried out by Joseph Barbanson, blacksmith with the Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, was manufactured in its workshop of the Place of the Revolution (the current place of the Attic with Salt) and it is him which suggested with its creator adding the three three-pronged forks of the gardians there in order to symbolize Camargue.

Monument
This cross was inaugurated the July 7th 1926 on a quay level beside the postal receipt (vis-a-vis the current building of the " Large Large"). At the time of this festival, many personalities and the friends of the Marquis de Baroncelli were present. One could see there the poet Joseph d' Arbaud, Delly, Maguy Hugo (the grand-daughter of the large poet Victor Hugo), Madam of Garanderie, Fanfonne Guillierme, the family of the editors Aubanel, the painter Paul Hermann, of course, and many other local personalities.Ten years later the cross was transferred to the Bridge from Death, with the entry of the village road of Acute-Dead. After being slightly moved, it is there still today as a guardian of the village. Unfortunately the original cross was catch and it is a copy which is currently visible.
