CrossOver Office

CrossOver ( CrossOver Office to version 6.0) is a commercial program (paying) and owner developed by CodeWeavers, making it possible to carry out many applications and plugins for Windows under Linux and Mac OS X thanks to a layer of compatibility.

The program is a reconfigured version & public owner of the source code of Wine, to which he adds various patchs compatibility, a more pleasant configuration, an integration specific to the environments Gnome and KDE, and capacities of virtualisation.

Development

CodeWeavers uses several developers of the software project open Wine source, to which it contributes of the code in return according to license GNU LGPL.

CrossOver 6.0 supports several plays now, like Counter-Strike, Half-Life 2, Prey or World off Warcraft.

Operation

Crossover creates a virtual environment Windows called “a bottle”. This bottle is, by defect, Windows 98. It is also possible to have an environment Windows 2000 or Windows XP (since version 6.0).

Thus, of many programs which turn under Windows can be launched with CrossOver with more or less of compatibility.

After the installation, a new category appears in small “the Applications” called Crossover which makes it possible to configure this one. All your files .exe can then be launched with Crossover, and each installation of a program creates a short cut on your Linux desk making it possible to launch it.
