Cronenbourg
Cronenbourg (in German Cronenburg , then Kronenburg , the borough of the princely or royal crown) is a district of the western crown of the downtown area of Strasbourg.
It is delimited in the west by the communal border of Strasbourg with Schiltigheim, Mittelhausbergen and Oberhausbergen, in the south by the A351, which separates it from the district of Koenigshoffen, and in the east and north by the Glacis of the old fortifications of the center town and the wholesale food market. The district is structured by the roads of Mittelhausbergen and Oberhausbergen, radial connecting the downtown area to the campaigns of the West of Strasbourg, called the Kochersberg .
The brewery
This district owes its notoriety with the presence in its center of the brewery Kronenbourg (with one K), which is today one of the principal producers of Bière in France. Since 2000, the district does not accommodate any more that the head office and the research center and development of Kronenbourg, from which the production is from now on mainly resulting from the production center of Obernai.
The Cronenbourg Old man
Cronenbourg, crossed since 1994 by the Tram of Strasbourg, consists of four quite distinct entities. In the east of the railway which crosses the district in its medium is the Old man Cronenbourg, popular quarters appeared in the middle of the 19th century, which experienced its development thanks to the brewery and with the establishment of many railwaymen. The two principal planned extensions which have then took place were the Saint-Florent district in north at the beginning of the XXe century, then the district of the Cedars, in the years 1980. Because of a renovated and diversified population, of a good service road by the tram and of linear commercial along the road of Mittelhausbergen, the Cronenbourg Old man plays the part of center for the district.
Extensions to the west of the railway
In the North-West is the Nuclear City, social district made up of bars of social habitat built in the Années 1960 parallel to the construction of a center of study of CNRS who gave him his name. Comprising close to 2 200 residences, it is the subject of many reflections of the public authorities aiming at requalifying the district. In the south of the Nuclear City, between the roads of Mittelhausbergen and Oberhausbergen, is the residential district of Saint-Anthony, consisted of suburban habitat dating from the Années 1950.
