Criteuil-la-Magdeleine

Criteuil-la-Magdeleine is a common French, located in the department of the Charente and the area Poitou-Charentes.

Geography

Criteuil Magdeleine is a Charente-native small village located in the triangle formed by Cognac, Barbezieux and Segonzac. It is thus located in full heart of Large Champagne, first vintage of the cognac.

History

Called Christolio with the the Middle Ages, the locality is much older since were found there, in a Gallo-Roman Cimetière, imperial currencies and funerary vases (in tombs dug with same the stone). To the place says the Beautiful Pines were found the signs of a villa and the remainders of a acqueduc which was to feed from the thermal baths.

Other vestiges of the past, two dolmens of Criteuil; buried for one, located at the edge of the departmental way 44 for the other.

The church Jean-Baptiste Saint of the 12th century (with private vault of the lord of Luchet contiguous), has rare and beautiful octagonal bell-tower recently restored and lit. The commune of Criteuil-la-Magdeleine occupies a calcareous plate descending to the south towards the river the Né and to north towards its affluent " Collinaud". One counts on their courses eleven more water mills of which some preserved their mechanism.

A hiking trail makes it possible to discover them and include/understand the rational use of water in order to transform corn into flour for the manufacture of the bread, basic food of the food of our grandfathers.

Lastly, in Bernac, the sulfurous mineral water fountain at constant temperature of 19°C, feeds out of drinking water the sixteen communes of the Bathe-Holy-Radegonde water trade union of .
