Contribution
Cristóbal Halffter is one of the most important type-setters of the Generación LED 51, group of artists who renewed the Spanish musical landscape with the introduction of the musical techniques of the European avant-garde, like the Dodécaphonisme and the Sérialisme. This group made up of Tomás Marco, Shine of Pablo, Carmelo Bernaola, Joan Guinjoan and others, is regarded as essential in the Spanish classical music of the 20th century.
The first works of Cristóbal Halffter indicate a rather nationalist influence, but little by little it evolved to a style plus avant-gardist, integrating the most modern characteristics of its time in a personal language. In him mix the Atonalité, the Dodécaphonisme, the Sérialisme, the concrete musics , electronic, and also the use of the traditional forms.
The the United Nations ordered to him the Cantate Yes, speak out (text of Norman Corwin) to commemorate the XXe birthday of the Universal declaration of the Human rights. In 1981, it received the Medalla de Oro de Bellas Artes .
There is a group of works, in which obvious its concern for the Mort and the Au-delà appears: Llanto por tired víctimas of the violencia , for a group of room and electroacoustic (1971), Elegía with the muerte of very poetas españoles (1975) and the Officium defunctuorum for orchestra and chorus, whose first took place with the Hôtel of the Invalids of Paris (1979).
The essence of its music is published by Universal Edition.
