The criosphinx or sphinx Criocéphale is characterized by a body of lion squatted or laid down with the long legs and a head of ram to the bent horns. It refers to the god Amon-Re and symbolizes at the same time the physical power and fertilizing energy. Thus the animal joins together in him the force of the lion and the heat of the ram, which in fact an exceptional being.

One can see of it in particular along the dromos temple of Amon with Karnak or another example along the dromos of the temple of Amon to Napata where the criosphinx were represented slept, the legs before folded up and the peeling of the illustrated body.
