Cricothyroidotomy
see also: Etymology of Cricothyroidotomy
The cricothyroidotomy is a surgical technique used in rescue, giving an rapid access with the Trachée and thus making it possible to ensure a effective Ventilation. It is an alternative technique with the direct Laryngoscopie in the context of the difficult or impossible Intubation in Urgence.
It differs from the technique of the Trachéotomie by the way of access: it is the membrane cricothyroïdienne which is incised, and not a ring trachéal. The anatomical reference mark making it possible to locate this membrane is the first depression right under Adam's apple.
There exist two techniques:
- surgical technique itself
- technique of Seldinger which consists in puncturing the membrane, then to insert a guide in the trachea which will allow the descent of a probe without small baloon.
