Crested Cariama
The crested Cariama ( Cariama cristata ) is the only species of the kind Cariama . One finds it in the dry meadows (Cerrado) of the east of the Brésil until the center of the Argentine.
Description
It is a bird which prefers to move on the ground rather than to fly (although it of it is able at small distances). The neck, the legs and the tail are long but the wings are short. It is 70 cm high and has a 90 cm length. Its weight can await 1,4 kg.They are birds with the plumage gray-yellow, with a peak érectile of approximately 12 cm. The nozzle and the legs are red. It is one of the rare birds to have lashes.
Food
Towards, small rodents, insects and small reptiles. (lizards and snakes).
Behavior
Passes the day to seek food, in couple or small group. Sleeps perched on low branches.
Reproduction
The nest, fact of brushwood, are in the trees. Two white eggs, slightly rosy and stained the brown one. The couple shares the incubation which lasts 26 days. Only one of let us oisillons is raised and fed by his/her parents. It remains with the nest approximately two weeks.
