A creek ( calanco into of Provence, calanca in Corsica) is a particular geological formation being presented in the form of a small valley narrow and deep on escarpés board, partly submerged by the Mer. One finds them in this form around the the Mediterranean, and under this name in the South-east of the France.
Dug in a Calcareous resisting or the granitic rock , the creeks composes of many landscapes of the coasts the Mediterranean. One can bring them closer, as for their form, of the rias or the Breton Aber S or the Fjord S.
For the creeks of the South of France and in Corsica, the sea exploited geological Faille S in the rock Calcaire, giving to the Littoral a very cut out profile.
The sea water is often fresher there because of many brooks run out in the sea, under its surface, by an underground grid which collects surface waters of the Montagne S and the plate X. Thus, an underground river of important flow ends in the creek of Port-Miou, almost with the sea level; it seems to come from the Holy-Balsam.
The multiplicity of the creeks on the coast of the solid mass of Marseilleveyre, to the South of Marseilles, gave to this solid mass the massive name of of the Creeks . So name “the Creeks” often indicates the solid mass in question, and not only the creeks themselves.
But, one finds also these formations geological, on the Northern coast of Marseilles, in the VAr with the Solid mass of Esterel and in Corsica.

The solid mass of the Creeks extends on more than 20 km length on 4 km broad between Goudes, in the South-west of Marseilles, and Cassis; its culminating points are the top of Marseilleveyre (432 m) and the mount Puget (565 m).
The solid mass of the creeks constitutes a particular ecosystem. The ground is quasi non-existent there, the prolonged cliffs Calcaire S of fall are traversed very many faults and cracks in which the roots of the plants are anchored.
The Climat is Aride, the essence of the moisture coming from the marine evaporation and rains from autumn and winter, strong but separated by long episodes from dryness and benefitting only very partially the vegetation because of the streaming.
The solid mass attracts all the year of many tourists and Randonneur S thanks to the vast choice of Sentier S hung between the tortuous Mer and reliefs. Many sites of Escalade are equipped there since the years 1970: these creeks are one of most beautiful the massive of climbing of France. The GR. 51 crosses the majority of those which one finds in Provence. Offering a space visually very preserved in the vicinity direct of very wide cities sometimes, they concretize the problems of Surfréquentation in fragile natural environment.
A project of National park of the Creeks is currently being studied.
In addition to the creeks of Marseilles themselves, one finds in the east of this solid mass, the creeks of Figuerolles on the commune of Ciotat, and Port of Alon on that of Saint-Cyr-on-Sea.

Less famous, and less spectacular, the small splits of the blue Coast , between Marseilles and the Gulf of Fos, are they also creeks limestones, sheltering small ports and pleasant beaches although difficult to reach.

Of Saint-Raphaël to Mandelieu it Napoule, solid mass of the Estérel at the right moment in the sea, which cuts out multiple wild or inhabited splits (Agay, Trayas). Characterized by contrast between the red color of the ic Rock Granite of the volcanic solid mass primary, and the blue of the the Mediterranean they compose one of the most remarkable landscapes of the Riviera.
Contrary to the Marseilles creeks, the creeks of Estérel are very accessible.
The trunk road 96 and the Marseilles railway - Nice skirt this coast on nearly 40 kilometers, and make it possible to admire the beauty easily of it.
However the amateurs of preserved nature estimate that these two ways are a gravely hurt with the natural site, and that it had been preferable, instead of a cornice, of sparing some transverse ways in dead end of access to the littoral, as that was done for Cinque Ground (Italy) and on most of the Corsican littoral.
Many a stray S antiques also lies on the high funds close to the coast, required passage, dangerous for the Embarkation S of the time, of the ways of trade the Mediterranean N.

The creeks of Piana (in Corsican language creek di Piana, in the singular calanca) are creeks located on the west coast, with Piana, halfway between Ajaccio and Calvi, on the road of the Corsican seaside.
The road on which this site is a sinuous road which passes through chopped coloured rocks. These rock formations are bored cavities, the taffoni due to the action of the variations in temperature, moisture coupled with the spray of the Mediterranean and the strong winds.
