History
Origins
The group was called before The Blue Velvets and was made up only of 3 members. Tom Fogerty, the older brother of John Fogerty will join them thereafter. They are formed in El Cerrito in California in 1959. They sign with the recording company Fantasy Records based in San Francisco in 1964. This one imposes to them the name The Visions under which they leave a first album. After that, the name of the group will become The Golliwogs , name which they hate. They record several individual for Fantasy Records in 1965 which leave only to San Francisco, without knowing attention in the remainder of the country. Only the title Brown Eyed Girl was a small regional success.
JRC was born
End of the year 1967, Saul Zaentz repurchases Fantasy with max Weiss. It offers the chance to Golliwogs to produce a whole album, but only if they change name. They take then the name of Creedence Clearwater Revival , and them first LP, the following year, will be partly made up of songs written by John Fogerty and of taken again of songs of rock'n'roll. Two individual will be extracted from the album: Suzie Q of Flagstone Hawkins and I Could has Spell One You Screamin' Jay Hawkins. Convinced of success, the 4 members then stop their work to devote themselves fully to their music.
The album Bayou Country is designed like a whole of 45 turns. Proud Mary (Rollin' One To rivet) , extracted the album, becomes gold disc. It is traditional rock'n'roll (begun again inter alia by Ike and Tina Turner). All the individual ones of the group are composed by John Fogerty and carry the mark of its imaginative genius.
With the disc Green River they obtain 3 new hits, Bad Moon Rising , Green River like Lodi .
It begin a round then, with in particular a passage to Woodstock, while preparing their fourth album 'Willy and the Poor Boys which will leave hardly 3 months after the precedent. From this album, 2 titles will be left into individual: Down one the Corner and Fortunate Its .
In January 1970, they leave a double with the titles Travelin' Band and Who' L Stop the Rain . This last was inspired by their service has Woodstock. Of return in the studios to spring, they record Cosmo' S Factory which will be regarded by the critics as their best album. That besides quickly will be classified in first position of the sales, like certain individual: Up Around The Bend (n°4), Lookin' Out My Back Door (n°2)…
In 1970, JRC is established as the American group of rock'n'roll having had the most success in terms of sales figures and results with the boxoffice.
End of the group
However, a crisis seems to reach the group, crossed by more and more of problems. The disc Pendulum , in spite of a change of management, does not save JRC of separation: Tom Fogerty from goes away and the group continues in Trio and undertakes a world tour which a disc live will leave.
It seems obvious at the time for Cook and Clifford which the group is only used to propose the aspirations of John Fogerty. The last album will be Fatty Tuesday where John decides to give his chance to the two other members of the group. The result will undoubtedly be the worst disc of the group. JRC separates in October 1972, whereas the public is hardly any more interested in them. John Fogerty continued in solo.
Tom Fogerty left since 3 discs as well as individual, Joyful Resurrection , with Clifford and Cook and which, according to him, tells the history of JRC. Cook and Clifford since worked together as bases rhythmic for the Don Harrison Band. All their individual were gold discs and their 7 albums, discs of platinum.
