Creed
Creed is an American rock group originating in Florida classified in the category alternate/Christian. It is composed of Scott Stapp singer, Mark Tremonti Guitariste and soloist, Scott Philips, Brian Marshall (bass player) which leaves the in August 2000 group. Although having profited only from one ultraconfidentielle diffusion in France, this group deserves to also take in this country the major place which he played in the Anglo-Saxon countries in alternate the postgrunge Christian.
The group is founded by Stapp and Tremonti, and although the two personalities are charismatic and talented, Stapp is released quickly as leader from the group. After an impregnated childhood of religion in a Christian school, it seems to try to reconcile through its music the difficulties of the life with the Christian traditional values and makes a success of the difficult marriage of an anticonformist music with more structured vision of the world. ¨ Of traditional values besides is it can be this modernization one of the keys of the fulgurating success of this group in countries ready to accept a return to federator values, and one of the reasons of its lack of visibility in other countries (in particular in Europe and particularly in France, in which for reasons sociétales these sets of themes are not with the day order).
The exit of their first album is greeted by the Anglo-Saxon critic in particular in the USA and Canada, with " My Own Prison" at the head of bridge which makes an entry fulgurating in the charts after having started to be last in Heavy Rotation on the radios (while at the same time the album was not completely completed), and already what will make the fulgurating success of Creed (namely a thorough direction melody, required fronts underlining delicately the words, and a writing intimist and introvert in search of Christian values) is expressed with full in the pieces: " Torn" , " My own Prison" (with the entêtant front), or " What' S this life for". However criticism also wakes up by fustigating in Creed the way of singing pointing out Eddie Vedder (the singer of Pearl Jam), the melodies alternative pointing out Nirvana, and the sets of themes morals which remain for a autoproclamée fringe " underground" critic rock'n'roll clearly sulfurous.
The following album assied fame of the group by establishing its style definitively, and by republishing the exploit (in spite of the stress caused by waitings as well of the fans as of criticism) with obsessing titles: Higher (small alternate jewel), inside custom all (délicieusement melody), or with ARM open wide, which will be taken again in heavy media rotation after the events of the September 11th in the United States. Stapp collaborates also at this time with the group of Doors and records some songs in the prestigious role held before him by the legend Rock Jim Morisson. However the media exposure, the enormous workload and the rate/rhythm in the concerts start to resound on the mood of Stapp which sinks little by little in a depression that it tries to make up, and which, not recognized as such, is very badly lived by the critic, and worse, by the members of the group themselves.
Finally in 2001 the jewel " leaves; weathered" who also profits from an enormous recognition by the public, criticism and the media, in particular through the titles " my sacrifice" , " weathered, " don' T stop dancing" , and clashing it and legal tender " bullets". Whereas for the fans Creed is with the acme of its glory, Stapp sinks more and more in the insulation and the depression, maintained by its difficulty of managing the criticism intensified by the media exposure of the group and its entry de facto in Mainstream, and by the consecutive abulia with its mood. The glory of the group also excites the interests of the other members, and, nature detesting the vacuum, the vacant place of leader left by Stapp because of its emotional difficulties is taken by Tremonti which thus decides to splitter the group, with the great astonishment of the fans.
In 2004, the group thus separates on the initiative Mark Tremonti, guitarist of the group, who wishes to release his creativity at the same time of the label of Christian rock'n'roll, and of the variations of mood of the singer and ex leader of the group Scott Stapp leader and singer of the group, plunged in a deep depression worsened by a massive corticoid catch in order to preserve its voice severely put to the test by the rounds of the group. Carried out per Mark, the other members of the group form Alter Bridge with a new singer. While Scott Stapp looks after the wounds of its heart after having taken part in the BO of " The passion of the christ" of Mel Gibson, before launching out in a career solo.
Alter Bridge musicalement leaves a powerful album, but which diverts the fans of Creed on the plan of the song. On its side Stapp leaves a smooth and melody album, which however misses a little the creative power of the excellent arranger which is Tremonti. History to be followed.
