History
In 1524 , the troops of Charles Quint, emperor of Germany and king d' Espagne, burned Cramont and its dependences. In 1867 , the population is of 615 inhabitants (162 houses), devoted mainly to the culture of the flax (already in 1789, one manufactured fabric with Cramont). The surface is of 947 ha. There exists a communal library, a tax collector of the contributions. Post office: Saint-Riquier. Cramont has as an appendix " Ménage" , hamlet located against wood. The end of this wood, named " Cromont in bois" , is on a site which has some resemblances to a Roman camp: it is a vast artificial terrace, undoubtedly a feudal mound, surrounded by deep distinct. The lord of Ferté-The-Saint-Riquier exerted in Cramont a rather great number of rights. He was owe per annum him: 137 pounds 10 grounds 4 sums of money, 45 capons, 13 hens, 60 drudgeries, 3 septiers 9 bushels of village (corn), 30 septiers 14 bushels of oats. He had also right of drilling and afforage. The same lord was owner with Cramont of a stone turn windmill, turning and working, making corn starch, called the " Mill of Chaussée" , sitted close to the village of Cramont. The wood which makes still today the ornament of the commune belonged, for the greatest part at least, with the Lord of Ferté: 228 newspapers approximately. In this wood is a very deep well with divergent galleries. One intended there a long time to howl a dog which had fallen there. Moreover, of this wood which extends in the plain towards Cumont and Hanchy, there was formerly close to Cramont another glazing bar of the field of Châtellenie of Ferté; it was called Bois of Grace and contained approximately 18 newspapers. The lord of Ferté had wood, the vault of his castle had grounds, 36 to 40 newspapers. An almanac of Ponthieu of 1783 provides us the name of a stronghold located with Cramont: Hyeraux. The church of Cramont, drawn in 1857 by Oswald Macqueron, is built out of stone and glaze out of slates. The bell-tower affects the shape of a surmounted bell of a narrow arrow. Owner: Martin saint. One suspects the presence of undergrounds in the village: Mr Ferdinand Acloque, to spare in Cramont, found in 1859, in his plan, an underground vault. Sources: deliver of Ernest Prarond, 1867
