Craig MacTavish

Craig MacTavish (born the August 15th 1958 with London in the province of the Ontario with the Canada) is a former player of professional Hockey. MacTacish is currently the trainer of the Oilers d' Edmonton in the National league of hockey but one also often associates his name with the helmet of the players of the LNH: he is indeed the last player of the league to evolve/move without helmet until his last season in 1995-96.

Career in club

It begins its career by playing in the university championship (NCAA) with the university of Lowell and its team, the UMass Lowell River Hawks in 1977. It is presented in 1978 to the fishing out of entry in the National league of hockey and is chosen by the Bruins of Boston during the ninth round (153e choice). It still continues a season in the NCAA before making its beginnings in the LNH and. Until the Season LNH 1982-83, it passes a little time with Bruins and much time in teams of the American Ligue of hockey. It obtains finally a place in the manpower of the frankness for two seasons but it kills a 24 year old young woman at the time of an car accident whereas it is under the influence of alcohol. It spends one year in prison and at its exit, Bruins considering that it deserves a new departure in another team proposes to him to break her contract, proposal which it accepts.

Two months later, the president of the Oilers d' Edmonton, Glen Sather, makes sign the young player in his team quite as young. The choice of Sather will be the good, MacTavish will then spend eight seasons with Oilers taking down three Coupes Stanley (1987, 1988 and 1990). In 1994, right before the beginning of the eliminatory Series of the Cut Stanley, it joined the Rangers of New York. Accompanied players like Adam Graves and Mark Messier, it gains the Coupe Stanley once again. So for MacTavish it is the fourth Cut in little time, for Rangers, this victory comes at the end of 54 seasons from food shortage. With less than 2 seconds remaining with the stop watch at the time of the last match, MacTavish registers the goal of the victory, putting fine at the sights of the Canucks of Vancouver on the Stanley Cut.

Thereafter, it makes still three seasons in the LNH (with the Flyers of Philadelphia then with the Blues of Saint-Louis) before hanging up again its shoes. With him, he is thus the last player without helmet to be put an end to his career.

MacTavish does not leave therefore the world of hockey and the LNH, and becomes the following season, the assistant trainer of Rangers, Colin Campbell. It occupies the station during two seasons then leaves New York to join its team of the Années 1980, Oilers. In 2000, Kevin Lowe trainer as a foreman and promoted managing director of the frankness and MacTavish takes its continuation behind the bench of Oilers, posts that it always occupies in 2007. Its team reaches the finale of the Coupe Stanley in 2006 by using a system of trap door, preventing the unfavourable attackers from making shootings on her guard. Oilers fall all the same finally against the Hurricanes of the Caroline.
