Cowes (Victoria)

Cowes (: 3494 inhabitants) is a small town on Phillip Island in the Gippsland an area of Victoria in Australia. The city was known at the beginning under the name of Mussel Rocks. In 1865, Henry Cox returned from holidays of England. He re-elected the city according to Cowes on the Île of Wight. Cowes is the principal locality of Phillip Island. It is with less than 2 hours of Melbourne and can be reached in ferry by Stony Point on the Péninsule of Mornington.

Geography

The locality is on the northern part of the island and fact face with French Island.

Its last Cowes years extended. Several buildings were built around the city which was before a ground of agriculture. Approximately 70% of the houses are had by owners absent the majority of the year, the majority of those live close to Melbourne.

The main street of the island (Phillip Island Road) arrives has Cowes and takes the name of Thomspon Avenue, the main street. Further in the city, the road begins a descent to the sea to finish in form of T.

The traffic is very important during the holiday periods when during the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.
