Courpalay

Courpalay is a common French, located in the department of Seine-et-Marne and the area Île-de-France.

Geography

This commune is located at about fifty kilometers in the east of the capital. One reaches it by Main road 4. With Rozay-in-Brie to take D 201 in direction of Nangis. The commune is partly built on a ground in declivity. At the low point tributary Yvron of the Yerres runs.
The inhabitants are called Courpaliens.

Religious heritage

  • the church is under the term of Martin saint Of the building of the XIII E century it remains only some elements. Inside one can see a statue out of polychrome wooden of XIIIè century: the charity of saint Martin
  • With the hamlet of Cordoux one can see the old monastery of Cordoux dating from the medieval time; construction out of sandstone, grinding and cement.

After the constitution of the co-operative of Courpalay in 1934, the construction of the silo is entrusted to the architect Roger Gilbert and the Cogeba company.
It is built in 1937-1938 out of concrete armé.
The building includes/understands the silo, planned for a capacity of 12800 quintals, and a store, intended to store 2200 quintals in sacs.
For the years 1960, it is necessary to add to the collection of corn, colza, the new cereals, then the maïs.
A new storeroom, also out of reinforced concrete, is built on the right building principal.
The silo is always in activité.

  • Castle of the Barn-Bléneau : Mentioned as of the 13th century, the castle of the Barn-Bléneau belonged to Courtenay, in Aubusson it Feuillade, Aguesseau. Adrienne de Noailles transmitted it to her husband, the general of Fayette, which lived there of 1802 to its death in 1834. The building dates from the 14th century but it was altered at the 17th century. It includes/understands five circular towers of the 15th century, a vault. The castle is remained in the state since the death of Fayette. It contains in particular the library of the general and the files and historical memories relating to the independence of the the United States. The castle was taken again by Rene de Chambrun Pineton de Chambrun (family) descendant of Lafayette of his/her cousin Louis de Lasteyrie in 1955. It is today the property of the Fondation Josée and Rene de Chambrun. See: Castle of the Bléneau Barn.
