Courgent

Courgent is a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.

Its inhabitants is called Courgentais.

Geography

The territory of the commune of Courgent occupies the bottom of the valley of the Vaucoueurs between Septeuil]] and Montchauvet, and overflows on the plate of the Mantois towards the south and especially towards north.

The greatest part (80%) of the territory remained rural, devoted to the field crop céralière on the plateu, the part timbered, approximately 30% of the total) being mainly on the slopes of the valley. The old inhabited center is in the content of the valley, lived it individual, dispersed enough extended especially towards the south, on the slope and the edge of the plate in limit of the commune of Mulcent.

The communes bordering are Montchauvet in the west, Mulcent in the south, Septeuil in the east and Boinvilliers in north.

The commune is served by the secondary road D11 which connects Thoiry to Bréval via Septeuil.

  • Church Holy-Clotilde: stone church of XIVe century flanked of a square bell-tower with covered frayed slate arrow.

This church, built at the edge of Vaucouleurs, inspired the words of a song of Paul Delmet (Words of Charles Fallot):

I know a church at the bottom of a hamlet
Whose it fine bell-tower is reflected in water
In pure water of a river…

Personalities

  • Léopold Flameng, engraver and Belgian painter of origin, resided in the commune. His/her son, Francois, also painter, was mayor of the commune between 1912 and 1917.
