Courcoué

Courcoué is a common French of the department of Indre-et-Loire, in the area Center.

Geography

Commune of 1.550 hectares installed in a valley dry and wedged by two slopes, Courcoué is with 8 kilometers of Richelieu. The commune profits from a pretty panorama, " the panorama of Combe".

History

Courcoué seems ground of human occupation was as of the Neolithic , because of the cultivable grounds easy to work. The commune appears in a Cartulaire of the Abbaye Saint-Michel of Walnut trees as of 1131 but under the name of “Corcoe” . It obtained its name current at the 18th century. Courcoué was, like many its neighbors, a stronghold of Faye-the-Vinous as from the 11th century.

Places and monuments

The common one counts a private castle and two manors. The only building worth visiting is the church of the borough built at the 12th century, which has an interesting bell-tower as well as a turret. Finally the building of the town hall constitutes a typical example of the architecture of the area; its Beffroi deserves the turning.
