The coup d'etat of the 18 fructidor year V (September 4th 1797) is a coup d'etat carried out under the Directoire by the three Directors (of which Paul Barras) constant by the army, against the moderate ones and the royalist , majority in the Councils (Conseil of the Five hundred and Conseil of Old the).
