County of the Pole
French historical Province, the Perche is old a county which would draw its name from the forest: sylva Pertica . It extends primarily on the departments from the Orne and Eure-et-Loir. In 1998 was created the Regional natural park of the Pole.
The Gentilé of the Pole is " Percheron".
Geography
The hills of the Pole are a center of dispersion of water and many small rivers take their source there to go to join:- the Handle (Divine Drums, , Flowering ash)
- the the Seine (the Eure, Avre, Iton, Risle)
- the the Loire (Huisne, the Sarthe).
Its capital was initially Mortagne-with-Pole, before becoming Nogent-le-Rotrou thereafter.
One distinguishes the Grand Pole , Perche Gouët (primarily in Eure-et-Loir) and the Perche Vendômois . The Pole now indicates a regional natural park located at the west of the Paris basin. In spite of the dismantling of the province to the Revolution, local identity perdure.

History
The etymology of the place names and several archeological sites (Pierre procureuse between Hermitière and Gémages) reveal an old settlement of the region. The county was constituted by the fusion of the county of Mortagne, the Viscount of Châteaudun and the seigniory of Nogent-le-Rotrou.
Proximity of the Normandy in fact of 10th with 15th strategic province for the Kings de France.
In 1227, it was included in the royal Domaine French. Part of the Pole was then dismembered to constitute the Comté of Alençon to the profit of Pierre I {{er}} of Alençon, Fils of France. However, it reinstated the royal field in 1283. It was, one second time, partly assistant in the county of Alençon for Charles II of Alençon, count d' Alençon and of the Pole in 1326.
The Renaissance is one key period of the history percheronne: the area covers manors and local industry (cheesecloths with Nogent, ores…) supply Paris. The principal minister of Henri IV, Sully, is marquis de Nogent-le-Rotrou, where it is buried. The Pole is also the native area of the poet Rémy Belleau, member of the Pléiade.
As from 1634 a movement of emigration percheronne towards the News-France starts, thanks to the capacity of persuasion of Robert Giffard, an apothecary of Tourouvre. It should not be allotted to misery, but rather to the spirit of adventure. In about thirty years, 146 adults, exerting various trades often related to construction (mason, carpenter, carpenter, brick-maker, etc), is 80 families, thus will undertake the great voyage. Some will return to the country, but the great majority chooses to be established on banks of the Fleuve the St. Lawrence there to clear and make thrive the new grounds.
With the Quebec, it is probably all the population of stock Canadian-Frenchwoman which little to recall a Percheron ancestor in his family tree, directly or indirectly.
Their descent is estimated today at 1.500.000 people with the Canada, apart from Quebec. Much more undoubtedly if one takes account of an important swarming in all North America (New England and Louisiana, more particularly).
One of the smallest provinces of the kingdom at the end of the Old Mode, the Pole preserves a strong regional identity in spite of its parcelling out at the Révolution between the Orne (Mortagne-with-Pole), the Eure-et-Loir (Nogent-le-Rotrou), the the Sarthe (Montmirail) and the Loir-et-Cher.
At the 19th century, the area is disenclosed by the arrival of the railroad. The Pole exports its horses in America where they take part in the Conquête of the West. Agriculture specializes gradually in the equine and bovine breeding, like in the cider-producing production. Political cleavages always of topicality are formed at this period: the Pole decorated, a long time Bonapartist and clerical, remains rather preserving, while the Pole of Eure-et-Loir has a radical tradition . Paul Deschanel, appointed Nogent-le-Rotrou, will be briefly president of the Republic after the Great War.
