County of Wexford
The Comté of Wexford (in Gaelic Contae Log Garman ) is an administrative unit of the Irish Republic. It is a maritime county located at the south-eastern point of the Ireland. Its surface is of 2.352 km ² for: 131749 inhabitants. Its culminating point is the mount Leinster (795 m).
The county draws its name from its main city, Wexford, founded by the Viking S. Wexford was one of the most important points of English colonization to the Moyen-âge, so much so that an old man Dialecte English, Yola, was spoken there until the end about the 19th century. The north of the county east remained to him remaining Gaelic because under the domination of the Clan of MacMurrough Kavanagh.
The county of Wexford was one of strongest the supports for the Irish confederation which briefly controlled the island during the years 1640. The ferries take on board there freight and passengers in direction of Great Britain (Fishgard and Pembroke) and of the France (Cherbourg and Roscoff).
The point of Carnsore ( Carnsore not ) did the one of the topicality in the years 1970 because the government of the time wanted to install a nuclear plant there. In front of the general outcry the project was discreetly abandoned. The site became a place of pilgrimage for the Irish antinuclear militants.
