County of Napa

The county of Napa is a county of the State of California to the the United States. With the census of 2000, it counted 124.279 inhabitants. Its chief town is Napa.

Place of installation of Italian colonists at the end of the 19th century, the valley of Napa became the principal area of wine production of the the United States, and is famous today in the whole world. The price of the hectare is higher than that of St. Emilion there.

The first œnotouristic area of the world

Napa Valley counts more than 900 fields which are spread out Caneros in the south in the north of Calistoga along two main roads (Highway 29 and Silverado Trail). More than one ten under-names of Napa Valley are recognized like American wine-producing areas (or AVA, abbreviation of American Viticultural Area ) and thus commercially protected by OMC. Among the most famous AVA of the valley of Napa, one finds Napa Valley, Yountville, St Helena, Rutherford or Oakville.

The county of Napa is the third destination most visited of the United States after the Large Canyon and the parks with topics Disney. One estimates at more than three million the number of tourists coming to taste the wines and to benefit from art of living in the area. The lifestyle developed by the area is clearly Mediterranean. The valley is also known for the great quality of its restoration which was several times preceded with the Michelin Guide. Having massively invested in modern means of productions as of the Seventies, the county of Napa produces today only 4% of the American wine in volume but 17% in turnover. The first Vigne with commercial vocation is planted in 1840 by George Yount (they are the Spanish missionaries which them first planted vines in California, but Napa was the last area where they established their wine activities), but the area is an international real success only since the Années 1980, in particular thanks to the aggressive Marketing carried out by Robert Mondavi and Napa Valley Vintners Association which gathers the majority of the producers of the area.

* the Mumm Champagne is established with St Helena on Silverado Trail under the name of " Munn Napa".
* Wines SKALLI (leader of the type of vine wines with " Fortant de France") in Rutherford (" St Supery: Divine Wines from Napa")

According to the US Census Office , the county has a surface of 2042 km ². With the Census of 2000, there were 124.279 inhabitants.
