The county of Monroe is a county of the the United States located in the State of Virginia-Western. In 2000, the population was of: 14583 inhabitants. Its seat is Union. It owes its name with James Monroe, fifth president of the United States. It was formed in 1799 starting from part of the Comté of Greenbrier. The largest alluvial diamond of North America, Jones Diamond , was discovered with Peterstown, city of the county of Monroe.
