The county of Miami-Dade is a county of the American State of Florida. Its population was of 2  253  362 inhabitants in 2000, which makes of it the county more populated Florida. Its chief town is Miami.

History

The county of Dade was created in 1836 according to the name of Major Francis L.Dade, a soldier killed in 1835 during the Second Séminole War. The county was famous Miami-Dade the July 22nd 1997. The Ouragan Andrew, which struck the county early the morning of Monday August 24th 1992, devastated its central part, the south of Miami as well as other communities. The damage is élèverent to 25 billion Dollar S in this only county, and the rebuildings took years in this area where the destruction was most serious.

Geography

The county has a surface of 6.297 km ² (including 1.257 km ² of water). The Baie of Biscayne is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by many islands which make barrier along the coast, one among it is the place where Miami Beach is located. It belongs to the archipelago of the Keys, which are accessible only by the county from Miami-Dade, but which makes however left the close county, the county of Monroe.

Miami is the only city of the the United States which is bordered by two national parks. The Biscayne National Park is located at the east of the continent, in the Baie of Biscayne, and one the Western third of the county of Miami-Dade extends inside the Everglades National Park.

Demography

According to the Office of the census of the United States, the county of Miami-Dade is the first county of the country on the level of the number of inhabitants born apart from the the United States, namely 51.4  % of the population. 67  % of the population speaks another language that the English in family. 60,6  % of the residents is of Hispanic origin.
