Policy
The county is controlled by the Los Angeles County Board off Supervisors , whose five members are elected by the inhabitants of the county. Because of size of the county, the members represent each one approximately 2 million people. They operate at the same time in the legislative and the executive , and have an influence on the legal . As legislative authorities, the council can make pass from the laws on the nonbuilt-in territories (which affect the whole county). As executive body it governs the various agencies which compose its administration.
The administrative services are divided into several départments that one can regard as true ministries considering the importance of the county. Each one deals with specific field: one can quote, for example, the Los Angeles County Department off Beaches and Harbors , the Los Angeles County Fire Department or the Los Angeles County Department off Health Services . The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, in spite of its name, does not form part of these cabinets: it is in truth a commission elected by the state on the level of the county. In the same way, the Los Angeles Superior Court , which covers the county in its totality, is a division of the official legal system, it is thus not managed by the county.
