County of Kangding

The county of Kangding (康定县; Pinyin: Kāngdìng Xiàn), Dardo , Darzêdo or Dartsedo in Tibetan (དར ་ མདོ ་ རྫོང ་), are an administrative subdivision of the province of the Sichuan in China. The town of Kangding is the chief town of the autonomous Préfecture Tibetan of Garzê. The city was also known in occident under the name of Tachienlu or Tatsienlu , according to the Chinese transcription Dǎjiànlú (打箭爐) of the name Darzêdo Tibetan.

Geography

The town of Kangding is located at the bottom of a throat, with the confluence of the rivers Dar and Tse , at the origin of its name Tibetan Dartsedo .

Demography

The population of the county was of: 105992 inhabitants in 1999.

The town of Kangding counts from now on a vast majority of Hans, mainly civils servant, soldiers or other official.

She counted: 35480 inhabitants in 2000.

Economy

Located at the door of Tibet, the town of Kangding was in the past an important shopping mall. It is there that the caravans were formed which carried the Ya' year towards the plate Tibetan, and which exchanged the Tibetans productions like the furs, the musk or salt, intended in China. Today, the administrative activities took an important place there.

Famous characters

Alexandra David-Néel, celebrates exploring of Tibet, remained in Kangding throughout almost all Second world war (of 1938 with 1944); it would then have received the authorization to reside in one of the temples Chinese taoists overhanging the city.
