The county of Hampshire is a county of the the United States located in the State of Virginia-Western. In 2000, the population was of: 20203 inhabitants. Its seat is Romney, the city oldest of the State. The county of Hampshire was created by the General meeting of Virginia the December 13rd 1753 starting from the counties of Frederick and Augusta (in Virginia). It is the oldest county of Virginia-Western. It holds its name of the Hampshire, in England.
