County of Fairfield (Connecticut)

The county of Fairfield is a county located at the south-west of the State of the Connecticut to the the United States. According to the census of 2000, the county had a total population of 882.567 inhabitants. More the big city of the county east Bridgeport. Like the seven other counties of Connecticut, there is no gouvernment county; in fact the individual cities are responsible for the police force, of the regiment of Sapeurs-pompiers, the school S, etc

Although the county of Fairfield forms one of the richest areas of the country, the incomes of the people are varied; for example, the towns of New Canaan, Darien, Weston, and Greenwich are among the richest cities of the United States, but a contrario Bridgeport is one of the poorest cities of the country. Because of its richness, the county is called “the Coast of Gold” (The Gold Coast) . The county belongs to the agglomeration of New York.

According to the Census of 2000, there were 882.567 inhabitants, 324.232 households, and 228.259 families in the county. The Population density was of 545 hab/km ². There were 339.466 houses with a density of 209 maisons/km ². The ethnic decomposition of the population was: 79,31% white; 10,01% black; 0,20% Amerindian; 3,25% Asian S; 0,04% natives of the islands of the Peaceful ; 4,70% of the other races; 2,49% of two or more races. 11,88% of the population were Hispanique or Latino of any race.

There were 324.232 households, of which 34,2% had children of less than 18 years, 55,5% were married couples , 11,5% had a woman who was isolated relative, and 29,6% were not-family households. 24,0% of the households were made up people alone and 9,4% 65 years people alone or more. The average household comprised 2,67 people and the average family had 3,18 people.

In the county the population pyramid was 25,6% below 18 years, 7,0% from 18 to 24,30,9% from 25 to 44,23,3% from 45 to 64, and 13,3% which were 65 years old or more. The median age was 37 years. For 100 women, there were 93,4 men. For 100 18 year old women or more, there were 89,6 men.
