County of Damyang
The county of Damyang (in Hangul: 담양군) is a county of the province of the Jeolla of the South, in South Korea.
History
Before being called for the first Damyang-gun time at the 11th century, the county knew following names: Chujahye-gun , Chusung-gun and Damju . Its history merges with that of the scholars who elected residence because of his quality of life there.
Geography
Located between Gwangju and Jeonju, Damyang-gun covers 455 km ² for a population of approximately 60.000 inhabitants (either 127 inhabitants with the km ², very low density for the country). The landscape of the county is an alternation of plains, mountains, lakes and especially forests (the area is very famous for its Bambou). The county currently experiences a great tourist development.
Culture
The culture is incontestably the strong point of Damyang-gun, and this on a broad spectrum:- For the amateurs of beautiful landscapes and beautiful walks: the fortress of Geumsungsansung, the mountain of Chuwolsan.
- For the amateurs of Zen, the temple of Yongheungsa or the garden of Soswaewon to Nam-myon: Yang San-bo (1503-1557) designed this pleasant haven of peace crossed by a torrent to withdraw public life.
- For the well-read men, the newspapers of Miam Yu Hui-chun (1513-1577) with Daeduk-myon or the visits of the houses of large scholars a little everywhere in the county.
- For the gastronomes, the Damyang ddeok galbi (marinaded ox wafer grill succulent) accompanied by a rice cooked in the bamboo.
- For those which like comfort: excellent a Jjimjilbang scented with the bamboo in Damyang Arises.
- For those which want to follow the mass: the amusement park dedicated to the bamboo (Daenamugol), falls of Gamageol.
The chemist IH Sung-gi is originating in Damyang.
