County of Comminges
The Comminges (in Gascon Occitan Comenge ) was formerly occupied by the Convènes, people of the Eastern Aquitaine. It for chief town Lugdunum Convenarum (Saint-Bertrand), had also called Communica (and by corruption Comminica , from where Comminges ), because it was used as general appointment for the assemblies or communes of the small people close to the the Pyrenees. Conquered by the Visigoth S, taken by Clovis, the country of Comminges was included/understood in 628 in the Duché of Aquitaine. The counts de Comminges died out in 1453 and the county was joined together with the Crown.
The first count of Comminges, Roger, would have lived in the Années 1020.
The counts de Comminges had Bernard like dynastic first name, of which:
- Bernard Ier de Comminges (towards 1115 - 1144).
- Bernard IV of Comminges (1176 - 1225).
- Bernard VIII of Comminges, also Viscount of Turenne, is the last of the name and dies in 1336.
In 1375, Marguerite de Comminges married Jean III of Armagnac then, in second weddings, Mathieu de Foix.
Comminges is incorporated in the royal Domaine in 1454.
Comminges is alienated in favor of Charles, bastard of Armagnac, then of Odet d' Aydie, lord of Lescun. It is again joined together with the royal field in 1498.
