In France

Currently

With Mayotte, in French Polynesia, New Caledonia, with Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon and Wallis-and-Futuna, the county court has attributions similar to those of the magistrates' courts and Courts of Bankruptcy which one finds in the remainder of the France. It delivers extracts of Police records to the people born in these communities.

In New Caledonia, as regards Common law, it sits in a training including/understanding of the usual assessors.

Formerly

The name of county court was given to the courts of districts instituted by the Loi of the August 16th and 24th 1790 when they judged in the first resort.

With the reform of the Year VIII which establishes courts of call, the county courts become the jurisdictions of common right civil matter. This organization remains until 1958.
