the country of alcohol is a novel of Mo Yan.
Located in the imaginary canton of Gaomi, in the province of the Shandong, the intrigue of the novel puts in scene a Chinese magistrate, in inspection in a city - “the city of alcohol” -, suspectée of practices cannibals. The tone on which questions as serious are treated as the cannibalism, the capital punishment and the meat of ass testify to the independence of mind of the author, who camps of the truculent characters in a fantastic atmosphere and yet into full in Chinese reality.
