Countess of Loynes
Marie Anne Detourbay , known as Miss Jeanne de Tourbey , by its marriage countess of Loynes , is famous a Demi-mondaine born with Rheims in 1837 and died in Paris in 1908.
Marie Anne Detourbay was born in Rheims in poor and many family. It is claimed that, during its childhood, it was employed to rinse the bottles of champagne. It went up to Paris and, under the name of “Miss Jeanne de Tourbey”, her star was not long in shining of a great glare to the firmament of the galantery.
It had for first guard Marc Fournier, director of the Théâtre of the Door Saint Martin's day, which it ruined and which had “to yield it” to the prince Napoleon who establishes it in a splendid apartment of the Rue of the Arcade, with two steps of the Fields-Élysées.
It was not long in receiving an exclusively male assembly there where All-Paris of the letters was seen: Ernest Renan, Holy-Beuve, Théophile Gautier, Lucien-Anatole Prévost-Paradol, Emile of Girardin. Gustave Flaubert fell extremely in love with it and wrote ignited letters to him.
Towards 1862, it met Ernest Baroche, Master of the requests to the Council of State and director of the foreign trade to the ministry for the Agriculture which of it was extremely in love. He died in 1870 by leaving him the considerable sum of 800 000 francs.
This fortune made it possible Jeanne de Tourbey to marry in 1872 the count Victor Edgar de Loynes, officer outgoing police officer. This marriage made it pass from the demi-monde in the very short world. The husbands were not long in separating, the count leaving for America where it disappeared. The countess preserved only her name.
Its receptions of the street of the Arcade gained in prestige. From now on, it received the every day between 5 and 7 hours. Its fashionable surface still increased when it was even installed on the Avenue Fields-Élysées. The celebrities of the Second Empire succeeded those of the Third Republic incipient, new mode which the countess of Loynes hardly liked: Georges Clémenceau, Georges of Oporto-Rich person, Alexandre Dumas wire, Ernest Daudet, Henry Houssaye, Pierre Decourcelle, and soon a whole pleiad of young writers taken along by Maurice Bars.
In the years 1880 - 1885, it met at Arsène Houssaye the critic Jules Lemaitre, fifteen years its junior, and who was going to become the man of his life. Under its impulse, it was to found, in 1899, the Ligue of the French fatherland of which he would become the first president. Together, they carried high the colors of nationalism. They reflect their hopes in the Général Baker then they were passionately anti-supporters of Dreyfus (V. Affaire Dreyfus), which involved the rupture with some their friends like Georges Clémenceau, Georges of Oporto-Rich person or Anatole France. Then it helped Charles Maurras and Leon Daudet to found the French Action.
