Count d\' Hereford

The title of count de Hereford was created several times in the Pairie of England, and even during the Anglo-Saxon time. The county of Hereford, Herefordshire is located at the west of the England, in edge of the Wales.

History of the title

Creation pre-conquest (1043)

  • 1043 - 1052  : Sven Godwinson († 1052), created count de Berkshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Oxfordshire and Somerset in 1043 by Edouard the Confessor  ;

  • 1053 - 1057  : Ralph the Shy person (1053 - 1057), wire of Dreux, Count de Vexin and of Amiens and Godjifu, sister of the king Edouard the Confessor  ;
  • 1057 - 1066  : Harold Godwinson (1022 - 1066), Count de Wessex and of East-Anglia. Reach the throne in 1066 under the name of Harold II of England.

The first creation (1067)

  • 1067 - 1071  : Guillaume FitzOsbern († 1071)  ;

  • 1071 - 1075  : Roger de Breteuil (1053 - after 1087).

Title confiscated for treason.

The second creation (1141)

the title is extinct.

The third creation (1199)

  • 1199 - 1220  : Henry de Bohun (1176 - 1220)   ;

  • 1220 - 1275  : Humphrey V of Bohun (about 1208 - 1275), Count d' Essex. Wire of the précédent  ;
  • 1275 - 1297  : Humphrey VII of Bohun (1249 - 1297), count d' Essex. Grandson of the précédent  ;
  • 1297 - 1322  : Humphrey VIII of Bohun (1276 - 1322), count d' Essex. Wire of the précédent  ;
  • 1322 - 1336  : John de Bohun (1307 - 1336), count d' Essex. Wire of the précédent  ;
  • 1336 - 1361  : Humphrey IX of Bohun (1309 - 1361), count d' Essex. Brother of the précédent  ;
  • 1361 - 1373  : Humphrey X of Bohun (1342 - 1373), count d' Essex and of Northampton. Nephew of the precedent.
