Count Owen
Count Owen , of its true name Owen Emanuel, is a singer and guitarist of Mento and Calypso born in 1933 with St Mary in Jamaica.
It records as of beginning of the year 50 of many discs for the labels " MRS" of Stanley Motta and " Kalypso" of Ken Khouri, among which Island In The Sun , Penny reality , Mandeville Road , Big Bamboo , Coils In Sweet Jamaica , Shame And Scandal or Kingston Town , often accompanied by Lord Gayle to the banjo and various formations like The Five Stars, The Crafters or The Calypsonians. It also records Soldering and The End for Coxsone Dodd. In the Sixties, it adapts Calypso and the mento to the new rates/rhythms Ska and Rock steady.
