Coumiac
The career of Coumiac is an old career of " Marble griotte" red, of a very great decorative quality, located on the commune of Cessenon-sur-Orb (Herault, France). It is about an important geological site, where one can observe many specimens of Goniatite S fossilized.
Geological characteristics
The career makes it possible to observe the stratigraphic limit between two stages of the Dévonien, the Frasnien and the Famennien, coinciding with an extinction which has occurred approximately 365 million years ago. The Goniatite S are primarily present in the layers of the Frasnien.
History
The marble was used for the decoration of the White House to Washington, cd. and with the Maison of France to Rio of Janero. The exploitation ceased in the middle of the years 1960.
