Couesnon
The Couesnon is small (a 90 km) coastal Fleuve taking its source close to the pond of Vézins, on the commune of Saint-Pierre-of-Moors in Mayenne.
Cours
During the near total of its course, it crosses the North-East of the Brittany (Ille-et-Vilaine) what constituted, in its last kilometers, the border between the Duché of Brittany and the Duché of Normandy. Its very irregular course formerly inspired the saying: “Couesnon in its madness put the Mount in Normandy” since the Mont Saint-Michel is located Norman side of its current mouth. The border between the Ille-et-Vilaine and the English Channel is located nevertheless at 4 kilometers in the west of the river.

Hydrology
Couesnon, the Sée and the Sélune take part in operation particularly complex Hydraulique of bay of the Mount-Saint-Michel. On a side, the Marée brings great quantities of Sédiment S which gave rise to rich person Polder S. Of the other, the three River drive out them towards the broad one.
At the 19th century, Couesnon was channeled to put an end to its “divagations” which eroded the shores. In 1969, a stopping was built there. These various installations, as well as the dam of access to the Mount-Saint-Michel accelerate the silting of the site. To prevent that it does not lose its insular character, it is envisaged to replace the dam by a viaduct of access and to modify the stopping of Couesnon so that it can again act as hunting.
Since the Mount Saint-Michel, with large the Tide S, a Mascaret can be observed on Couesnon.
