Cottidae

Description

The family members of the Cottidae are corpulent fish, with famous person and the prominent eyes, the bone préoperculaire being often armed with spines. The pectoral fins developed well form large ranges. Except for the coats, whose dorsal fin is continuous, they often have two dorsal fins of which first is thorny and second is with soft rays, with the image of the Anal fin. The skin generally smooth or is strewn with tuberculées scale S, or completely covered with scales which resemble plates.

The Cottidae gathered formerly more very close species, like the Hémitriptère ( Hemitripterus americanus ), which could be classified in the Hemitripteridae . In water of the Atlantic Canada , one finds nearly 15 of the 300 known species.
