Costa Mesa

Costa Mesa is a suburban town of Middle-class in the Comté of Orange in California. The population was of 108.724 inhabitants in 2000. Since its incorporation in 1953, the city passed from a farm community of 16.840 inhabitants to a suburban town to the economy based on the trade and light industry.

History

Members of the Tongva and nations Juaneño/Luiseño lived the area for a long time. After the forwarding of Gaspar de Portolà in 1769, a Spanish espédition organized by the Father Junipero Serra named the zone Vallejo de Santa Anna (Valley of Holy Anne). November 1st 1776, the Mission San Juan Capistrano became the first permanent European colony in Alta California (News-Spain).

In 1801, the Spanish Empire yielded 62.500 acres to Jose Antonio Yorba, which it named Rancho San Antonio . The ranch of Yora included the grounds where the towns of Olive, of Orange, Villa Park, Santa Anna, Tustin, Costa Mesa and Newport Beach is today.

After the américano-Mexican War, the California became part of the the United States and American colonists arrived in the area and formed the town of Fairview during the years 1880 close to the current intersection of the Harbor Boulevard and the Adams Avenue . In 1889, a flood cut the railroads serving the community.

In the south, during this time, the community To grip developed on a side of the Santa Anna and Newport Railroad, named according to an owner of local ranch. This city thrived thanks to its agricultural goods. The May 11th 1920, the town of Grip changed its name into Costa Mesa, which means " mesa côtier" in Spanish.

The population of Costa Mesa has to increase during and after the Second world war, since the soldiers who were involved with the Santa Anna Army Air Bases turned over, after the war, in their family which lived the surroundings. Costa Mesa was with. Costa Mesa is in the 46ème Congressional District with Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Seal Beach, Avalon, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Palos Verdes Estates and Rolling Hills Estates as well as with portions of Long Beach, Westminster, Santa Anna and San Pedro. Dana Rohrabacher is current representing 46ème District.

Services of the urgencies

The fire-protection is brought by the Costa Mesa Fire Department. The policemen belong to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

Education

Whittier Law School : In 1975, Whittier College moved a satellite campus for the studies of right to Costa Mesa.

Transport

Costa Mesa is served by several line of Bus of the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), but the majority of transport this fact all the same by cars. Two Highway S finishes there, the California State Highway 73 and the California State Highway 55 (also known under the name of Costa Mesa Freeway ). The San Diego Freeway, Interstate 405 , crosses also the city.
